Direct-to-Card (DTC) is a printing technique in which images and text are printed to the card surface by applying heat and pressure. The method is named because, during this process, the printheads come into direct contact with the card surface without any other objects or parts in between.
This technology is in direct contrast with retransfer printers that use the reverse side of a film to print the card. The DTC printer directly prints the printing material onto the surface of the card.
As compared to reverse transfer printers, the direct card printer offers a speedy job, printing a bulk of cards in minutes.
The printing job is faster and more efficient because it doesn’t require a long process or other components.
They are also considered more affordable, as they have a lower cost per card rather than the reverse transfer printers. It is an ideal printer for those users who do not have to produce heavy-image texts, meaning ideal for day-to-day jobs.
